For the third year in a row, teen birth rates in South Carolina have declined, and are now at Group_of_teens_shrinkan all-time low. Information released by the Department of Health and Environmental Control shows a teen birth rate for 15-19 year olds of 42.6 per 1,000, correlating to a 13% decline from 2009-2010 and improving its ranking from 11th to 12th in the nation.
Aiken County’s statistics show both increases and decreases. Overall our teen birth rate has decreased but not at the same rate as the state. From 2009 to 2010, the teen birth rate in Aiken County decreased by 3% with a total of 257 teen births. The teen birth rate for 18–19 year olds did not change but the birth rate for 15–17 year olds decreased by 9%.
