Girls Circle is a research-proven intervention program that is implemented in several elementary and middle schools throughout Aiken County.  It is a youth development approach that creates a safe place for girls to address risky behaviors, build on personal strengths and improve relationships in a format that interests and engages the girls.

Girls Circle groups are led by a certified facilitator who covers a variety of topics such as: friendship, body image, female identity, stereotypes, trusting one’s self and others, aggression and dating violence, diversity and cultural heritage, relationships, substance abuse and risky behaviors, goal-setting and self-care.

In 2015, 122 girls participated in the Girls Circle program in 9 different schools, and other youth-serving organizations.

  • 37.3% of the girls had an increase in feelings of self-efficacy
  • 37.1% of the girls had an increase in feelings of social support
  • 41.6% of the girls had an increase in their overall perception of their body
